We are one of the leading youth focus development organisations responding to the increasing vulnerability of youths (especially girls) to challenges of adolescence such as; identity development, social relationships, social exclusion, emotional intensity; substance abuse, peer pressure and sexual maturation.
Most young people in Cameroon today become sexually active in their teenage years. According to the Demographic Health Survey of 2018, “Women and men in Cameroon initiate sexual activity at relatively young ages. Women have their first sexual intercourse at a median age of 17.0; men initiate sexual activity at a median age of 19.3.” The report also states that 24% of adolescent women age 15-19 are already mothers or are pregnant with their first child. Education on family planning methods is limited and many young girls are exposed to sexually transmissible diseases and unplanned pregnancies. This situation, therefore justifies why there is need for immediate and continuous attention.
YOP sees adolescent sexual reproductive health as: a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being of young people/young adults in all matters relating to the reproductive system and its functions and processes
Our strategic goal is to improve the sexual and reproductive health status of youths and adolescents in Cameroon
In the North West Region, we are reaching out to young people of ages from 09-25. However, some projects reach out to young people in the southwest province.
